Edwin commenced practice with the law firm of Gill, Godlonton & Gerrans in December 1985. He was a partner at this firm until 31 May 1998 when he co-founded the firm with Canaan Farirai Dube and Selby Hwacha.
Edwin has considerable experience in commercial practice, banking and financial services work and has played a leading role in significant mergers & acquisitions, privatizations, floatations, reverse take-overs, IPO’s, rights offers and placements, telecommunications transaction, power and energy transactions, and mining mandates. Edwin heads the Commercial & Financial Services Unit at DMH, arguably the leading commercial law practice in Zimbabwe and a significant player in the region.
In recent years Edwin and his team have spearheaded the reconstruction and restructuring of listed and unlisted companies across a number of sectors in the economy. Under Edwin's leadership, DMH has become the predominant advisor in the restructuring, through schemes of arrangements, taking place in the financial services sector in Zimbabwe, including the establishment of FBC Holdings Limited in August 2004, the restructuring of NDH Holdings Limited in 2004/2005; the takeover of Intermarket Holdings Limited by Zimbabwe Financial Holdings Limited and the establishment of Zimbabwe Allied Banking Group Limited (ZABG) 2005 to mention some significant transactions. In 2007, Edwin was appointed to the panel of four experts, by the Governor of The Reserve Bank, chaired by retired Judge Smith, which included the corporate governance guru, retired Judge Mervyn King, and former Governor of The Bank of Zambia, David Abel Phiri, tasked as reviewing the banking laws in Zimbabwe. The panel submitted its report which is in the process of being implemented.
In recognition of his contribution in the practice of law, Edwin is listed as a leading commercial lawyer by CHAMBERS GLOBAL, an international publication on the world's leading lawyers. Edwin has experience in several jurisdiction and has done work within the region in Botswana, South Africa and Zambia, as well as in the UK, in Europe, USA, China, Hong Kong and Korea.
Edwin is a member of Commonwealth Young Lawyers Programme Alumni. He is a Director of several public and private corporations and a Trustee of the Dadaya Mission Trust. He is a keen golfer.
